Reasons, Rumors and Writing Four Books (or more) At Once

I know you're wondering why our female heroines are experiencing so much trouble with their love lives. I've been lambasted (roasted and/or barbecued) over it in several reviews of Demon's King. But--what if, you ask yourself, there is a reason for all this?
Well, is there?
Since I'm the one writing the books, I can say yes to that question without hesitation. Here is a quote from Blood Love, the tentative title in the fourth book of the God Wars series. This is Lissa and Gavin talking. I started to give a larger quote, but it contained a name and other information I'm not quite ready to give, yet. Here it is:

"Gavin, what do you think would hold the universes together, if Love didn't exist?"
Gavin's eyes popped open and he stared at me. "Lissa, that is the most frightening thing I've heard in a very long time."

So, ask yourself, who might gain if Love is destroyed—especially for some of the major players? What better way to turn them away from their destiny than to damage/remove that vital commodity? Things are heating up in the God Wars realm, and the BIG players have to come together. As far as Reah's personal troubles, I'm hoping that Demon's Quest will help somewhat, but as there are six books in the High Demon series, obviously the problems haven't gone away completely.
Now, on to rumors. Yes, there has been conjecture that Reah or Lissa is the Mighty Heart. After all, nobody has gotten a good look at her. At least you know it's a her, now <grin>. Well, I'm sorry to burst any bubbles, but the Mighty Heart is neither Lissa nor Reah. And still, Wisdom is lurking out there, somewhere <bigger grin>.
And, since I just gave you a quote from Blood Love, the fourth book in the God Wars series, then you've probably figured out that I have something written on all four books (I do). Blood Double is half finished. Blood Trouble has the least written on it (around 8,000 words) Blood Resolution is close to half finished, as is Blood Love. Yeah, my mind works in truly strange (if not mysterious) ways.
Anyway, I hope this helps a little. Happy New Year, everybody, and may its light shine on all of us.
Connie

  1. Amazing all the secrets you're keeping from us. BTW, not all heroines start off "kick-ass" full of confidence. I like to see them grow. Thanks for the teaser again!!
Happy New Year to you and yours.

  4. Ok, I can see the bad guys might be trying to ruin things for the major players. After all, there was that rogue godling in Destroyer that tried to turn Ashe bad by killing his community.
They almost succeeded. So, I can see afterwards how the bad guys were able to do what they almost did in Destroyer, but not sure how they are doing the influencing of Reah's mates yet.

    1. A race was mentioned in Blood Reunion, but not *explained* by the Larentii. You'll see more of that beginning in Blood Double (God Wars #1)

  5. Getting lambasted in reviews ... /sigh. Okay a couple points.

    1) Demon's King punches some serious visceral buttons, however considering all the books put out so far I am sure it all ties together eventually and is necessary. To date I have not seen gratuitous torture, even if I DO want to torture a few of the characters (note characters NOT author).

    2) Consider the storyline ... all these series tie together ... they are part of one bigger story, you need to know the players before the main show. If the entire storyline is fluffy bunnies there is not much room or reason for growth.

    3) Reah not a Mighty ... imagine that ... /evil grin.

Reviewing Demon's King ... hmm do you want a blurb review or an in depth review? I'll do one.

    2. Posted on Amazon too -- Larry

This book is the continuation of Connie Suttle's High Demon series, it is not for the feint of heart. This book shows plot depth that spans not only the current series but shows glimpses of future series as well. Reah experiences betrayal on every level while beginning to learn about the destiny fate has in store for her. This book is definitely not "fuzzy bunny" material but in my opinion does a very good job in advancing the story and set the background for future books. As for the cliffhanger ... if they work for the masters they work for all authors.

  6. Thanks for all the insight. I think it adds to the depth of the characters to see all the trials they go through with their love lives. Can't wait to read all the series!

  7. I gave up second guessing you when Teeg turned out to be Garvil. You always have a valid reason even if we can not see it at this point in time..

  8. Shure looks like the main (male) love interest are influenced by the bad guys.
Crippling your love because she might run away is bad enough, but continuing it afterwards when the need isnt there anymore...
If thats not an reason to run away from him?

Still looking forward to the next one.

Btw. God War? Book 4? Where is the first?

  9. I posted some comments on a couple of 1 and 2 star reviews. I am pretty sure that those guys would be extremely unhappy with the Dresden Files. Jim Butcher's story arc is going to go out for over a decade. He is not very quick with his releases.

    1. Thanks! Lots of people of all ages love that series. Ashe is one of my favorite characters, plus, you'll get to see what Winkler was up to after Lissa left :)

    2. I've read all of them and Ashe's series ties in with the others. I'm 31 and really enjoyed them. Not the typical teenager type books. :)

    3. There are a lot of details about Elemaiya as you go through that series, and ends with some activity related to the God Wars. So, yeah, you really ought to read them. :)

    4. Oh yeah, I'd definitely recommend all three series. I wasn't sure on Destroyer set but after reading, and now re-reading them I love them and I'm 35 (shhh - don't tell!!). Keep up the great work Connie, we're all looking forward to the next releases.

  12. Oh thank you so much! These books are great, what a cliffhanger. Have you desided which books will come out in which month? Could you give me a hint about what the god wars books will be about or who the main characters will be. Just a little one. Please. But anyway thank you so much for these amazing books.

    1. Demon's Quest is coming around Jan. 15th, Demon's Revenge in February and Demon's Dream in March. I'll know more about Blood Double in April/May, and will let everyone know around that time. Look for a new character in Blood Double, as well as more story on Ashe, Kalia and a few others from the Ir'Indicti series. I am a little reluctant to give any info away regarding the new character, so look for a snippet in the next couple of months :)

  13. I have read all of them, looking forward to more, I think Ashe's series is really important to the big picture but was way happy I had read most of the Lissa series before starting on his storyline.

  16. The only characters that tend to go away are the bit player and anyone unfortunate enough to be named Devlin ... hmm ... nahh I'll keep that evil thought to myself.

  17. Hey connie loved all the books and cant wait for the story to continue. As far as not liking the trouble with their love lives that seems to be how these characters grow strong enough to do what needs doing. Pretty much the only disapointment i've had with the high demon series is with Lissa she seems to have reverted to letting people namely her mates get away with anything and acts like she doesnt have the power to stop it. After everything she went through for her to now sit back and watch it happen to someone else is a shock.

Look forward to the rest of the series keep up the good writing
